Kayaking with whales

Kayaking with whales

It happened at Neko Harbour in the Antarctic peninsula when adventure travel photographer Andrew Peacock joined a fellow kayaker on the cold waters for a photo session in the stunning arctic landscape. A photo session that brought the photographer the opportunity to capture this amazing photo of a minke whale swimming only a few meters below the surface of the water. Incredible experience, isn’t it?

Take a look at the photo, top to bottom, slowly, discovering it step by step, the beautiful landscape at first, then the giant shadow and finally the head and the mouth of this impressive whale.

It’s a beautiful photo, so simple, with only three elements creating the perspective: the distant mountain, the kayaker nearby and the whale just below the photographer. Also an excellent positioning of the photographer with the mountain-whale direction giving the photo dynamism, creating the wow story.

It’s also amazing how Andrew managed to keep calm and take the shot with such a good composition, given the giant animal below heading towards him.
